5 consequences from the drought that's drying out America

Drought-damaged corn on a Michigan farm. (Robert Ray/AP)

The worst drought in a generation is punishing farmers and burning up the nation's corn crop. Nearly 65 percent of the nation is experiencing a drought right now, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. Many farmers were just trying to get over last summer's dry spell when the hottest June on record rolled in, threatening to destroy crops and desiccate pastures.

While it's still unclear exactly what the drought will mean for the U.S. environment and economy, a few concerning consequences are already apparent. But experts predict other worrisome outcomes yet to come. (If you have stories or photos about how the drought is affecting you, share them with us here.) Here are a few consequences that could crop up due to the drought:

1. Rising food prices at home

The U.S. Department of Agriculture warned last week that Americans should expect to pay 3 to 5 percent more for groceries next year because of the drought. Most of the price hikes will be for chicken, pork, beef and dairy, since the dry weather is scorching up the nation's corn crop, which feeds these animals. Soybeans and wheat prices are also on the rise. Other fruits and veggies, most of which are irrigated, aren't likely to be as affected.

2. World food prices and social unrest

While no one likes to have to pay more for food, Americans are on the whole much less vulnerable to food price spikes because, on average, they spend less than 15 percent of their budgets on food. In developing nations, such as India, food spending accounts for nearly half of the average household's funds. While experts don't know for sure how the drought will affect world food prices, many nations depend upon America's corn, soybean and wheat exports. Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Japan, Peru,?South Korea and East African countries are the most dependent on U.S. corn imports, the Guardian reported last week. Food prices and social unrest have been closely correlated over the past five years, leaving experts to fear a repeat of ?2007 and 2010, when waves of social unrest followed food cost hikes.

3. Sad, skinny animals at county fairs

Though far less serious than some of the other drought outcomes, the AP reports that prize animals showing up at state and county fairs this summer are far skinnier than their prize-winning ancestors. In one Wisconsin-area fair, entries were down by two-thirds, as farmers said they were too busy struggling to stay afloat with their dried-up pastures and the rising cost of feed to enter into the contests at all.

4.?Wildfires

Firefighters have been battling wildfires in Nebraska, Arkansas, California, Texas, Colorado and other states this summer. Extra-dry conditions mean more fires are likely as the summer stretches on.

5. Barges stuck on riverbeds, roads buckling

The drought is taking its toll on key transportation and infrastructure in the country. The Mississippi River has gotten so low that barge operators are worried they will get stuck while navigating it. They've had to lighten their loads, which means taking more trips to transport $180 billion in?grain, coal and other goods. Meanwhile, roads are buckling, water pipes are bursting, and power lines are burning up in wildfires due to the nine-month drought, reports The Texas Tribune.

Prelate recalls suffering of Church in Cambodia

Catholic Culture Monday 30th July, 2012

The apostolic prefect of Battambang, a city located in northwestern Cambodia, discussed the terrible persecution of the Church there under the Khmer Rouge regime (1975-79). "It is a martyr Church," says Spanish Jesuit Father Enrique Figaredo Alvargonzlez. "The Church in Cambodia was completely leveled. All our leaders, as I said earlier, bishops, priests, nuns, many catechists, were killed. Those who weren't killed died of hunger or disease, and...

Chris Brown on Frank Ocean: Love Who U Want!

Chris Brown and Frank Ocean have traded Twitter barbs before, and the former has been accused of making gay slurs in the past, so a report attributing one to Brown regarding Ocean coming out came as no surprise.

But it's not true, the singer says.

"My Opinion on the whole Frank Ocean subject is ......... Love who u wanna love. It's ur decision. People stop searching for BS," Brown tweeted Monday.

Chris Brown, SunglassesFrank Ocean Pic

The "BS" he's referring to is a celebrity gossip report in France that claims he responded "Man, no homo," when asked about Frank Ocean coming out.

Apparently this something one says in the hip-hop world when, after giving props to another guy, a guy makes clear there was no sexual connotation.

While the phrase is a debate in and of itself, and Brown's list of controversial actions and comments remains lengthy, he insists there was no ill will here.

Ocean, who counts 50 Cent, Beyonce and Russell Simmons among his supporters, even if Target won't sell his album, hasn't commented on Brown.

Train Like an Olympian - The Self Improvement Blog

Carmelita Jeter

By Tanja M Shaw -

The Olympic Games have begun! For the next two weeks we will be glued to the television, mesmerised by the triumphs, defeats and perseverance of the world?s best athletes. It may be too late to become an Olympic athlete, but you can still learn from the best and apply their secrets to your training plan.

1. Keep you eye on the prize.

To the athletes, the Olympic games begin years before we watch the final performance on television. Years before the games start, the athletes set their sights on competing in the games, and create an action plan to achieve their goal. Their four year plan contains smaller goals, such as other competitions, or tweaking a technical aspect of their performance.

To be successful in fitness, it is important to know what being successful means to you. In other words, you need to have a goal. If your goal is a lofty one, such as losing 50 pounds, break down the goals to create an action plan. For example, you might start by walking two miles every day for a month, and swapping mashed potatoes for steamed veggies at supper. Once you have succeeded, you can work toward the next smaller goal, such as adding swimming into your fitness routine two times a week.

2. Be a part of a team

Even athletes in individual sports such as speed skating are a part of a team. Athletes have technical coaches, nutritionists, fitness coaches, doctors and others supporting them and helping them become successful.

In your own fitness endeavours, creating your own personal support network will help to ensure success. You may find that you benefit from working with a nutritionist or personal trainer. Friends and family can also become a part of your support network. Having a good workout partner will help keep you motivated as you work toward your goal.

3. Use food to fuel your body.

While I don?t know exactly what every Olympic athlete eats everyday, I can safely bet that they don?t finish a tough workout with a box of donuts. Successful athletes look at food as a way to fuel their body; not as the enemy. They make sure they are getting all the right nutrients to give energy for their workouts.

Instead of thinking as food as a way to distress, reward yourself, curb boredom, or try to avoid as much as you can, think of food as a way to fuel your active lifestyle. For each meal or snack you plan, think about what the food will do for your body. When you start thinking about food in this way, healthy eating will be the obvious choice.

4. Train your mind as well as your body

The difference between an Olympic gold medalist and any other athlete may very well be only in the head. Any high calibre athlete will understand the importance of mental training. Positive self talk, visualization and ?getting in the zone? are examples of using the mind to achieve athletic goals.

Use the power of your mind to improve your own level of fitness. Positive self talk, such as saying ?I look forward to going for a run? or ?I am a fit, healthy person who likes to exercise? can keep you motivated. Phrases such as ?I can do this? or ?be strong? can help push you through a tough workout and bring your fitness to the next level.

Adopt the strategies of the best athletes in the world to improve your own level of fitness. Set goals, create a support network and use positive self-talk to be stronger and healthier.

Sharia Finance a Complete Flop in Germany | EuropeNews

Inevitable. There is no place in the world where this works, and there is certainly no place in the west for this racket. We have the best banking system in the world. Islamic banking is as retarded as Islam itself.

Sharia compliant Islamic finance is a Muslim Brotherhood engineered fraud. Its about legalising transfers of huge amounts of money into the global jihad. It was a scam from the get go. It will never work.

Few realise that the people driving the establishment of Islamic Bank of Britain and Salaam Insurance were not Muslims.

More than 20,000 people killed in Syria revolt: NGO

More than 20,000 people have been killed in Syria since the start of an anti-regime revolt in March 2011, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Saturday.

"At least 20,028 people, among them 13,978 civilians and rebels, 968 army defectors and 5,082 members of the regime forces have been killed since the start of the revolt on March 15 of last year," Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Britain-based Observatory, told AFP by phone.

The Observatory counts people who have taken up arms as civilians and keeps a separate tally for army defectors.

At least 90 people were killed across Syria on Saturday, including 29 in northern Aleppo, the country's commercial capital, where regime forces battled rebels in a long-anticipated assault.

In the past week, at least 100 people have been killed every day, including on Friday, when at least 148 people were killed, according to the watchdog's figures.

It is impossible to verify death tolls in Syria. The United Nations stopped counting the casualties of the bloody conflict at the end of 2011.

Google confirms it still has a 'small portion' of Street View WiFi data, apologizes

Google confirms it still has a 'small portion' of controversial Street View data, apologizes

It has seemed like Google was close to putting its Street View snooping controversy behind it a few times now, but one thing or another keeps bringing it back to the forefront. Today, it's an admission from Google that it hasn't deleted all of the so-called payload data in question after all. That revelation comes in a letter from Google Global Privacy Counsel Peter Fleisher to Steve Eckersley, head of enforcement at the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (or ICO), in which Fleisher says that Google is still in possession of a "small portion of payload data collected by our Street View vehicles in the UK." Fleisher adds that Google "apologizes for this error," and says that the data was discovered after an extensive review of its Street View data that it has been conducting in recent months. For its part, the ICO has acknowleged that it received the letter, and notes that the data was supposed to have been deleted in December of 2010, adding that "the fact that some of this information still exists appears to breach the undertaking to the ICO signed by Google in November 2010." You can find both statements in full at the ICO link below.

Chaplain quits So. Baptists over same-sex rite

(AP) ? A long-serving Air Force chaplain has left the Southern Baptist Convention after the conservative denomination publicly questioned his attendance at a same-sex civil union ceremony at his base in New Jersey.

The chaplain, Col. Timothy Wagoner, is remaining on active duty and has affiliated with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, which holds more moderate views on homosexuality and some other issues than the Southern Baptists.

"I find very little that is more important and nothing that is more exhilarating than providing for the religious freedoms and spiritual care of all service members and their families ? and will joyfully continue to do so," Wagoner said Friday in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

Wagoner's exit from the Southern Baptist Convention, which SBC leaders welcomed, is a direct fallout from the repeal a year ago of the "don't ask, don't tell' policy that had prevented gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military.

Gays are now able to be open about their relationships, and same-sex civil union and marriage ceremonies can take place at military installations if they are legal under state law. New Jersey recognizes civil unions, and thus the June 23 ceremony uniting Tech. Sgt. Erwynn Umali and civilian Will Behrens had legal stature.

Wagoner ? the senior chaplain at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst ? had made clear he would not officiate at such ceremonies, which the Southern Baptists do not condone.

However, Wagoner had told The AP ? in an interview a few days after the ceremony ? that he decided to attend as a show of support for the base community, for Umali, and for the Evangelical Lutheran chaplain, Col. Kay Reeb, who presided over it.

"I wouldn't miss it," Wagoner said, describing the ceremony as beautiful.

On July 13, a week after the AP story appeared, the Southern Baptists' official Baptist Press news service ran an article conveying the message that South Baptist military chaplains do not support same-sex civil unions or marriages.

It quoted Wagoner as saying, "''My intention was never to embarrass or misrepresent the Southern Baptists, whom I have faithfully served for 30 years as a pastor and military chaplain."

On July 20, another Baptist Press article appeared, announcing that Wagoner was leaving the Southern Baptist Convention.

It quoted Kevin Ezell, president of the SBC's North American Mission Board, as saying, "When it comes to what our chaplains believe and practice, we do ask and we do expect them to tell."

"We only want to endorse chaplains who can support Baptist doctrine and belief without reservation," Ezell said. "If an SBC chaplain concludes he cannot conduct his ministry in harmony with SBC beliefs and doctrine, then it is best to part ways."

The U.S. military requires that all of its chaplains have the endorsement of an established faith group. According to recent Pentagon figures, the Southern Baptists are the largest endorser ? accounting for 450 of the roughly 2,930 active-duty chaplains.

Professor David Key, director of Baptist Studies at Emory University's Candler School of Theology, predicted that Wagoner's departure from the Southern Baptists might be the first of many as their chaplains try to reconcile conflicting loyalties.

"The SBC has been defined by its anti-gay stance," Key said. "They now find themselves not just out of synch with growing segments of society but also out of synch with the U.S. military."

"This may be the beginning of a wave of resignations," Key said. "Showing affirmation for gay and lesbian soldiers is what the military wants, and exactly what the SBC doesn't want. At the moment, it's irreconcilable."

Pentagon guidelines say that chaplains are entitled to adhere to the specific beliefs of their faith, but also should show respect for those who hold different beliefs.

"Air Force chaplains serve airmen of all backgrounds, of all faiths or no faith," said Maj. Joel Harper, an Air Force spokesman.

The Southern Baptists' executive director for chaplaincy, former Army Chief of Chaplains Douglas Carver, was quoted by Baptist Press as calling military chaplaincy "one of the toughest ministries in the Kingdom of God" ? in part because of the emphasis on multifaith, multicultural diversity.

"It's a vague environment out there, especially as our chaplains promote and defend the whole counsel of God in a post-'don't ask, don't tell' military environment," Carver said. "Our chaplains are navigating through uncharted waters, where the cultural values of the military increasingly conflict with the traditional values and beliefs of Southern Baptists."

Another retired Army chaplain, Ron Crews, said Wagoner's actions had "dishonored Southern Baptist traditions" and praised the SBC for maintaining its stance against same-sex unions. Crews is executive director of the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty, a coalition of retired chaplains and other religious leaders which has warned that repeal of "don't ask, don't tell" would lead to conflicts for some chaplains from faiths that disapprove of same-sex relationships.

At the civil union ceremony, Wagoner met several gay rights activists who were in attendance, including Fred Sainz of the Human Rights Campaign and West Point graduate Sue Fulton of OutServe, which represents gay and lesbian military personnel. Both described Wagoner as warm and gracious.

The co-director of OutServe, Air Force 1st Lt. Josh Seefried, is stationed at Wagoner's base and encounters him frequently.

"Chaplain Wagoner is one of the nicest, most sincere people I have met in my life," Seefried said in an e-mail. "He deeply cares for his job and all of us that interact with him.... He embodies the best of the chaplain corps."

amitbd.com ? Non Certified Criminal Lawyers ? Legal ? amitbd.com

A certified Criminal lawyer NYwould be the best lawyer you need in a criminal case. This is a lawyer who would be able to prevent harassment and violation of American constitution on his or her client. An experienced lawyer has lots of connections and contacts that might save a criminal or accused from the jaws of jails. These lawyers are straightforward in their defense and might step on toes in making sure that they win their cases or reduce the sentence of their clients who are accused of crimes or who must have committed crimes.

Examination for Criminal Lawyers

Criminal lawyer NY must pass the New York bar examination before applying for law establishments that are specialized in criminal law practice. There are various laws and bills that have been adopted by New York State government and there are also the federal criminal laws of United States of America that would guide any criminal lawyer in New York. There are two types of legal cases which are the criminal and civil court cases. The civil court is interested in lawsuits involving disagreements, debts, anger and so forth that have nothing to do with crime while in the criminal court, it is the government that files as a prosecutor against a criminal and the punishment is either a fine or jail. This is why you should get a qualified criminal lawyer for your legal case.

Criminal lawyer NY is a legal expert who takes care of people who are in need of legal support and advice because of criminal conduct that they are charged with. There are so many lawyers in New York that are specialized in the defense of people or firms that have problem with the law. These experts are employed to work within a jurisdiction where criminal courts are set up for them. Sometimes, these lawyers are called public defenders that work or operate according to the law of the jurisdiction that they are living and working from. In New York, these public defenders are in charge of taking care of people arrested, criminal charges that might be in the past or present or investigation of criminal activities.

M-Audio Oxygen 49

The third-generation M-Audio Oxygen 49 ($189.95 list) is a solid 49-key MIDI keyboard controller that works with PCs and Macs. It's actually part of a four-product lineup, which consists of the Oxygen 25, the Oxygen 49, the Oxygen 61, and the Oxygen 88, with each number reflecting the corresponding key bed size. It turns out that regardless of which one you choose, the M-Audio Oxygen is an easy Editors' Choice. It offers excellent value as a day-to-day controller for Apple GarageBand ($14.99, 4.5 stars), as well as pro-level digital audio workstations, virtual synthesizer plug-ins, and music instruction software.

Design and Controls
The Oxygen 49 measures 29 by 9.4 by 3.7 inches (HWD) and weighs 6.4 pounds. The keyboard is made entirely of plastic, with a smooth, expensive-looking gray finish, and full size ivory-like keys. It looks bluish in photos, but in person it appears gray, and it feels solid and well made.

One of the reasons why the M-Audio Oxygen line has been successful for so long is its vast array of MIDI control features, and here the Oxygen 49 doesn't disappoint. Starting at the top left, there are two plastic pitch bend and modulation wheels, each one with a sizable finger indent. Four rubber keys to the right handle Track Select and transposition. To the right of those keys, a 3-digit red LED display shows the currently selected parameter?usually with a range of 0 to 127, although it also shows octave and preset info. This is one place that even a slightly larger LED display would be helpful, though I suppose M-Audio has to save something for its more expensive Axiom line (which also features higher quality, semi-weighted keys and eight drum sample pads, among other upgrades).

The Oxygen 49's back panel, meanwhile, features a standard-size USB port, a sustain pedal jack, and a power switch, with a Kensington-style lock opening on the right side for security purposes in student and educational settings. The Oxygen 49 comes with a six-foot USB cable, but no AC adapter. In fact, there's no DC power jack, either. That's not a problem with today's PCs, but it hampers compatibility with an iPhone or iPad, since third-party MIDI adapters like the IK Multimedia iRig MIDI ($69.99, 3.5 stars) assume AC power for the keyboard. I wouldn't have minded if the AC adapter was optional, but to remove the jack with it seems a bit excessive.

M-Audio Oxygen 49

Programming, Performance, and Conclusions
A long row of rectangular keys just above the keyboard let you program controller information. These work in conjunction with the MIDI keyboard itself, which when placed in Edit mode handles various functions according to the labels behind the keys (such as for bank switching, velocity curves, and drawbar programming). More prominently, there are nine assignable sliders in the center of the keyboard, plus eight assignable knobs on the right side. Dedicated transport keys sit on the right beneath the knobs. All of the controls feel good to the touch and move with precision.

I tested the M-Audio Oxygen 49 with a custom-built Core i7 PC running Avid Pro Tools 10 ($699.99, 4.5 stars), Steinberg Cubase 6.5 ($499.95, 4 stars), and Cakewalk SONAR X1 ($499.99, 3 stars), as well as with a 15-inch MacBook Pro running Apple Logic Pro 9 ($199.99, 4.5 stars). The Oxygen 49 worked flawlessly in all cases. Key feel is on the light side, but felt precise enough that I wasn't constantly reminded I was playing a budget-priced controller, and the vast array of knobs and sliders made controlling on-screen parameters a breeze.

If you're looking for something that feels more like an actual piano, you'll want semi-weighted or fully weighted, piano-style keys with solid front ends. The new Oxygen 88 looks like a good alternative, although I haven't tested it yet; there are of course many other 88-key controllers out there. On the smaller side, the Alesis Q25 ($179.95, 3.5 stars) is a slightly lower-cost alternative that omits most of the controls. The Q25 features a two-inch shallower depth that makes it easier to place on a small desk, although it's a bit wider, as the pitch bend and modulation wheels are on the left of the key bed. If you're planning on using your controller with an iPad, the Samson Carbon 49 ($89, 3.5 stars) offers a built-in slot to sit the tablet neatly in front of you and at an angle, although it lacks the Oxygen 49's copious array of assignable sliders, knobs, and transport controls and doesn't feel quite as robust.

Assad 'moves chemical weapons to Syria border': rebels

Syria's rebels accused strongman Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday of moving chemical weapons to the country's borders, a day after his beleaguered regime said it would use its stockpiles if attacked.

Helicopter gunships strafed rebel neighbourhoods of second city Aleppo, as heavy fighting forced the closure of a third of the shopping malls of what is Syria's commercial capital, pro-government media said.

The rebel Free Syrian Army said the regime's chemical arsenal had been moved in a bid to pressure the world community, much of which has called for Assad to step aside in the face of the more than 16-month uprising against his rule.

"According to our information, the regime began moving its stocks of weapons of mass destruction several months ago ... with the goal of putting pressure on the region and the international community," a statement said.

At a Damascus news conference on Monday, foreign ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi acknowledged that Syria has chemical weapons and said the regime would use them if attacked by outsiders, although not against its own civilians.

"Syria will not use any chemical or other unconventional weapons against its civilians, and will only use them in case of external aggression," Makdissi said.

US President Barack Obama warned Assad not to make the "tragic mistake" of unleashing chemical weapons.

"Given the regime's stockpile of chemical weapons, we will continue to make it clear to Assad and those around him that the world is watching," Obama told an audience of US veterans in the western state of Nevada.

"They will be held accountable by the international community and the United States should they make the tragic mistake of using those weapons," he added.

Senior defence official Amos Gilad assured Israelis there was no cause for alarm.

"At the moment, the Syrian regime is fighting for its very existence, but all of its chemical weapons and its weapons of mass destruction are under full control of the regime," he told public radio.

"Israel citizens can remain calm."

As rebel fighters suffered setbacks, notably in Damascus, the opposition Syrian National Council bickered over whether it would accept a transition led temporarily by a member of the regime if Assad steps aside.

An offer to do so by SNC spokesman George Sabra was contradicted just hours later by SNC spokeswoman Bassma Kodmani.

"There was never any question of a national unity government led by a member of the regime," Kodmani told AFP.

Despite the disarray in opposition ranks, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, whose country hosts the rebel leadership, said he was confident it was close to victory.

"The ruthless killings committed in panic in recent days show the world that the Syrian regime is on the road to oblivion," he said.

Neighbouring Iran warned it would not tolerate the collapse of its key regional ally.

"The Syrian people and the friends of Syria will not allow regime change," Brigadier General Masoud Jazayeri, the deputy chief of Iran's joint armed forces, was quoted as saying.

Activists and regime sources say government forces have reclaimed most of Damascus after a week of heavy fighting with rebels, who remain in the city but are planning a guerrilla strategy.

Clashes continued Tuesday, with the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reporting at least 42 people killed nationwide.

"At least seven civilians, including six children, were killed by regime forces shelling of the besieged town of Herak," south of Damascus, the watchdog said.

A video it distributed showed the bodies of dead children, including a young girl in a pink and white dress, lying on a blood-smeared floor, the faces of some of them covered in blood.

"Herak has been under shelling for 10 days," an unidentified man says in the amateur video.

"Where are the Arabs and Muslims when these children are killed during Ramadan?" he pleaded, referring to the Muslim holy month which began last week.

In Aleppo, the Observatory said helicopter gunships were firing on the Qadi Askar, Bab Al-Hadid, Al-Katergi and Karam Al-Jabal districts.

The Al-Watan newspaper, close to the government, reported that six shopping malls -- a third of the commercial hub's total -- had been forced to close because of "regrettable events".

At least seven people were killed when regime forces put down a prison mutiny in the city, the Observatory said.

An inmate, who said he had managed to smuggle a mobile phone into the jail, told AFP: "The situation after the security forces came in is horrifying. All I can hear is the sound of screaming."

Riad Kahwaji, director for the Institute for Near East and Gulf Military Analysis, said that as the regime throws its full weight into protecting its control over Damascus, the rebels have made a tactical retreat and are now "directing their full force on Aleppo."

"Taking Aleppo after they take control of the borders of Turkey makes sense because it's all connected, close to supply routes, close to the command headquarters of the rebels on the borders," he told AFP.

The Best "Fat Burning" Foods and Beverages Exercise Menu ...

rawvegetables

Health and fitness are?two?important concerns for any human being. Scientific studies have revealed that excess body fat can lead to many health problems like diabetes, hypertension, stress,?and so on. All of which?only?prove that it is?essential?to follow a healthy diet and lifestyle?that?can?help?you keep?your weight under control.Regular exercise, a balanced lifestyle and a proper diet are perhaps the three most important pillars of a healthy body. If one were to look at the diet component ? there is absolutely no doubt that a balanced and nutritious meal scheme will?be helpful?in burning fat. It is not just about counting calories, it?is also about choosing the right kinds of foods. Some of the best known fat burning foods and drinks?rev up metabolism,?and therefore are useful staple in one?s diet plan.

Whole Grain Products

Bread, buns and other products made from whole grain are healthier than those made of refined flour. The fiber and nutritional content of whole grain products make them healthier and better in terms of fat burning.?You can make sandwiches and burgers with whole grain bread,?and choose healthy fillings like lettuce and soy that help in shedding?fat! Whole grain cereals are also considered effective?fat burning foods.

Meat?and eggs

Not all?the?meats?are?equal. For the best fat burning meats, choose salmon, lean chicken?and lean?pork. The protein content in these meats?help burn fat. Essentially, fat burning takes place because your body burns calories during the digestive process.?Eggs are also a great way to start the day as they are also rich in proteins and minerals.

Green Tea

This wonderful brew is a great drink to include on a daily basis in your diet.?It?s?rich in antioxidants,?and?also includes?something called EGCG or epigallocatechin gallate which results in enhanced metabolism.?It is always good?to make the green tea fresh,?and drink it while it is hot.

Citrus fruit

Eating oranges and other citrus fruits ensure that your body gets adequate amounts of vitamin C which results in the production of more?carnitine. ?This will result?in the oxidation of body fat. It is also recommended to eat oranges as fruit rather than taking them?in the form of juice or capsules.

Vegetables

Again, not all vegetables?can help you burn fat. Vegetables?like potatoes and?yam are high in calories. For better fat burning, it is good to choose vegetables that are high in fiber. Spinach, cabbage, broccoli and artichoke are all excellent in terms of their ability to burn fat.

Water

This may seem like a very simple?inclusion?to your diet, but most people?do not drink enough water. Make sure to?drink a minimum of 10 glasses?of water?a day. You can increase this amount depending on the climate of the place you stay in,?and the number of hours you work. Water helps?to?keep the body hydrated,?and therefore helps in increasing metabolism.

Lentils

Lentils are rich in minerals, nutrients and amino acids ? all of which help in burning fat.?You can have them in the form of burger fillings and as soups too.

(AP) ? Firearms sales are surging in the wake of the Colorado movie massacre as buyers express fears about both personal safety and lawmakers who are using the shooting to seek new weapons restrictions.

In Colorado, the site of Friday's shooting that killed 12 and injured dozens of others, gun sales jumped in the three days that followed. The state approved background checks for 2,887 people who wanted to purchase a firearm ? 25 percent more than the average Friday to Sunday period in 2012 and 43 percent more than the same interval the week prior.

Dick Rutan, owner of Gunners Den in suburban Arvada, Colo., said requests for concealed-weapon training certification "are off the hook." His four-hour course in gun safety, required for certification for a concealed-weapons permit in Colorado, has drawn double the interest since Friday.

"What they're saying is: They want to have a chance. They want to have the ability to protect themselves and their families if they are in a situation like what happened in the movie theater," Rutan said.

Day-to-day gun sales frequently fluctuate, but the numbers also look strong outside of Colorado, too.

Seattle's home county, King, saw nearly twice as many requests for concealed pistol licenses than the same timeframe a year ago. Florida recorded 2,386 background checks on Friday, up 14 percent from the week before. Oregon checks on Friday and Saturday were up 11 percent over the month prior. Four days of checks in California were up 10 percent month-to-month.

During the past decade, June and July have consistently been the slowest months for gun sales, according to FBI data.

Jay Wallace, who owns Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna, Ga., found that his sales on Saturday were up 300 percent from the same day a year ago ? making it one of the best Saturdays his business has ever had. He said customers are often afraid when there's a gun-related tragedy that some lawmakers might try and push through an anti-gun agenda.

"We shouldn't let one sick individual make us forget and lose sight of freedoms in this country," Wallace said. A few members of Congress have talked this week about the need for tougher gun laws, though political leaders in Washington have shown no sign of bringing up such measures any time soon.

Authorities have said that the suspected Colorado shooter, James Holmes, methodically stockpiled weapons and explosives at work and home in recent months. He purchased thousands of rounds of ammunition and a shotgun, a semi-automatic rifle and two Glock pistols, authorities said.

On Friday, clad in head-to-toe combat gear, he burst into a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises," tossed gas canisters into the crowd and opened fire. The shooting killed 12 people and wounded dozens of others.

Police in the Denver suburb of Aurora say Holmes also booby-trapped his apartment. Holmes is now in solitary confinement at a local jail.

The rise in gun sales reflects but one of the anxieties created by the shootings. Since the massacre, there have been reports of chaos at movie theaters, apparently sparked by misunderstandings or careless words.

A confrontation with an intoxicated man in an Arizona theater caused about 50 people to flee, authorities said. A southern California man was arrested after authorities say he made allusions to the Aurora massacre after the movie didn't start on time. In New Jersey, a showing of "Batman" was canceled after someone stood up during the movie, opened an emergency exit and then returned to their seat.

About 90 minutes into a Monday night showing of "Batman" in Santa Monica, Calif., a commotion caused some girls to shriek and two dozen people to sprint for the exit, jumping over seats and pushing each other out of the way. It turned out that a large man with a backpack was actually not a threat and was simply having a medical problem.

"This was nothing, and yet it startled us and rattled us so much," said moviegoer Paria Sadighi.

Nationally, the shootings have triggered a fierce debate over gun control and whether government has a role in reining in the ownership of firearms.

Gun sales often fluctuate based on news events, especially whenever people think the passage of more restrictive gun laws is imminent. Sales spiked following the election of President Barack Obama, when weapons enthusiasts expressed fear that the Democrat might curtail gun rights. FBI figures also show background checks for handgun sales jumped in Arizona following the shooting of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in 2011.

"It's not uncommon for us to see spikes in requests for concealed pistol licenses when there's a significant gun-related tragedy," said Sgt. Cindi West of the King County sheriff's office in Washington state.

Some Democratic lawmakers in Congress cited the shooting as evidence of the need for tougher gun control laws ? particularly a ban on high-capacity ammunition magazines. Congress, however, hasn't passed strict legislation in more than a decade.

Creativity * Community * Leadership | WALT FRASIER

Our shows are the coolest way to inspire?
Our workshops are the coolest way to introduce?
Our residencies are the coolest way to develop?
Our Professional Development helps your staff build the future?

In addition to being great a cultural arts experience, Improv shows, workshops and residencies are the coolest way to get students excited about and teach creative writing and thinking, community (communications, listening, focus, respect, eye contact), and leadership (public speaking, self-confidence).

SHOWS ? Our cast presents original music and skits created on the spot based on audience suggestions and participation. The shows are so much fun, the students don?t even realize the valuable skills they are learning. Our study guides help teachers prepare students before and follow up with important concepts following the program.

WORKSHOPS ? 45-60 minutes of fun playing team building and storytelling games that warm up the mind and body to create and work together. These workshops get the students on their feet developing exposition (WHO & WHERE) and rising action (WHAT) for original stories. Students are asked to project and speak clearly so the whole class can hear. YES AND is the main focus, supporting your teammates.

RESIDENCIES ? 20-hour (one-ten weeks, 2-5 hour sessions) programs prepare a group of students to perform their own show, diving much deeper into performing and creative concepts. Each session begins with warm-up and team activities. Students learn 5-10 classic games for performance. Students also share stories of the life that we develop in to comedy monologues. Our teachers tie in everything we do to writing reports and other activities for everyday classes.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ? Our Improv Workshops for teachers serve a dual purpose. Team building for your staff AND providing teachers valuable tools to continue the work we begin. A team that enjoys working together gets things done!

Is weight loss related to fitness and health?

Delicious Digg Facebook LinkedIn reddit StumbleUpon Twitter Bit.ly Email PDFmyURL

Do you know that the most number of ads on weight loss and fitness and health products are released? People tend to take these New Year resolutions to lose weight and be fit and healthy and this is the reason for the plethora of these ads. Have you ever taken a resolution like this? If you haven?t then you must now. Obesity has reached such alarming proportions that you cannot afford to wait longer. And no ? you don?t need to wait for the next 31st December. Get started as soon as possible and this will help you best.

?

It is true that weight loss and fitness and health are intricately related. If your weight is within limits then your fitness is good and you are healthy. You may have heard of BMR or Basal Metabolic Rate. It is a comparison of your weight and height and if your score is above 30 you are considered obese. So, before you hit the gym or the swimming pool it is best to calculate your BMR. It is possible that you need to focus on your health and fitness without losing weight and your BMR will tell you that.

?

The easy option for weight loss is to stop eating or to start consuming those wonder products. The market is flooded with products that apparently help you lose weight. Some of them may work but you cannot be sure if they can contribute towards your fitness and health. With so many such products available in the market it is very difficult to choose between the effective and the scam. You ask any diet expert and they will not show too much enthusiasm about these products and for a good reason.

?

When the world was not so advanced people just had to rely on workouts and diet to lose weight and stay fit. But now you have some excellent products available in the market that not only help in weight loss but also contribute towards your fitness and health. Yes, we are talking about dietary supplements.

?

Is it enough just to have dietary supplements for weight loss and fitness and health. No, it is not. You must have a routine life where you need to start workouts and eat healthy. The ideal workouts for losing weight are cardio exercises. And then when you want to build that shapely body you should also get into weight training. Let your gym trainer decide what is best for you and follow their instructions. As far as your food is concerned consult a dietician and switch to a systematic diet plan. And replenish all the lost nutrients with dietary supplements for the best results.

?

There are other elements associated with weight loss and fitness and health. You should keep your body hydrated and give your body enough rest. This is when you get the best results.

?

While weight loss leads to fitness and health you should never overdo it. Follow a system and see how your body responds beautifully to it.

Weight loss and fitness and health are totally related and hence you need a system for achieving both.
